Community members gathered downtown on June 14 for the annual Juneteenth celebration marking Black liberation and heritage, which featured a parade, food trucks+bus tours, a fun run, an essay contest, and awards for local community leaders.
The event lasted until 8 p.m. Saturday.

Hundreds of No Kings protesters gathered in Watson Park Saturday to reject authoritarianism and show what true democracy looks like.
Many moved on to South Park for the Juneteenth celebration when the event ended early — local law enforcement had minimal presence in Lawrence.
