- ➤ Lawrence community members gathered Wednesday at Just Food to celebrate the opening of an enhanced garden featuring a tea garden, accessible raised beds, and an outdoor classroom—Tito’s Handmade Vodka donated funds to add 36 garden beds while a grant will sponsor a fence and plans include a shade pavilion. - ➤ KU Libraries selected three faculty—Dorothy Hines, Jeremy Shellhorn, and Georgina White—to join librarian teams for Sprints Week projects from May 19 to 23; each will receive a $1,000 stipend and present their work at noon May 23 at the Clark Instructional Center in Watson Library. - ➤ Yesterday, nearly 70 middle and high school student-athletes with disabilities competed in the Pat Grzenda Adaptive Triathlon at Lawrence High School, receiving encouragement from peers, family, and educators. Pat Grzenda—battling lung cancer and inducted into the Hall of Fame—awarded medals as adaptive PE teachers Rodney Hess and Tiffany Russell organized the event. The Lawrence Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Lawrence will start using parking boots on vehicles with three or more unpaid parking tickets that are 60 days overdue on May 19 as it shifts to a civil parking enforcement process—tickets issued before January 1 will still follow the old legal route. City of Lawrence
- ➤ The Connected City Advisory Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 19 at Central Transit Station — where community members can attend in person or register via Zoom to provide public comment. The board advises the Governing Body on improving city infrastructure and maintaining efficient services as part of Lawrence’s Connected City Strategic Plan. City of Lawrence
- ➤ A Kansas judge sent the Attorney General’s lawsuit against Pfizer to state court+ the suit, which alleges that Pfizer misled Kansans about vaccine safety, will proceed under the Kansas Consumer Protection Act. Pfizer said it will defend the claims and remains confident in its vaccine data. KCTV
