BUSINESS NEWS

  • Businesses in the NOTO Arts District have seen fewer shoppers and rising prices due to higher tariffs. Many plan to boost sales by hosting monthly First Friday events (a busy sales day) to ease economic uncertainty (some stores have even paused shipments).  KSNT 27

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 90 rural mail carriers from Kansas rallied in Lenexa on Friday morning to protest plans to privatize the Postal Service and cut retirement benefits. Carriers from Lawrence, Topeka and western Kansas gathered along 87th Street with bull horns and matching t-shirts — rally leader Andy Tuttle warned the changes would threaten jobs and raise shipping costs.  KCTV
  • Lawrence City Commission will meet Tuesday, May 6 at 5:45 p.m. at City Hall to consider multimillion-dollar tax incentives for the second phase of KU’s Gateway Project and a proposed Q39 downtown restaurant. The planned incentives include sales tax, revenue bond, and community improvement districts — the public may comment in person or online until noon on meeting day.  The Lawrence Times
