EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Kansas will host public presentations by four provost finalists in January and February at Burge Union and Kansas Union + viewable online. The search committee plans to select a new provost by Mar. 1, giving local community members a chance to hear each candidate's vision.  The Lawrence Times
  • The Douglas County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge has opened applications for students in grades 6–12 to pitch business ideas for cash prizes, including a new $250 Innovate Globally Prize (inspired by the World Cup). The competition starts Feb. 20 at the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center, with applications due Feb. 6.  The Lawrence Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lawrence residents are reminded this holiday season to follow proper recycling practices to reduce contamination and extra costs at the local Material Recovery Facility. City communications advises flattening boxes and removing items that are not meant for recycling (like wrapping paper and plastic bags) from blue carts.  City of Lawrence

  • Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced the Kansas City Chiefs will build a domed stadium in Wyandotte County and a practice facility in Olathe after confirming the team’s move to the Sunflower State; Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe said the state must focus on retaining the Royals.  KCTV
