🎭 Culture
KU assistant professor Amal El Haimeur consulted for Firaxis to add Sayyida al-Hurra, a 16th-century Moroccan pirate queen, as a historical leader in Civ VII (released Feb.
11) in a December 9 update, expanding accurate cultural representation in the popular game series.
🎓 Education
A new book from KU and other institutions outlines how to move beyond student surveys for evaluating teaching.
The book details a seven-year project (the TEval initiative) that gives universities strategies to better measure and reward instructional improvement.
🌲 Environment
A crew from the Kansas Geological Survey and water staff will measure groundwater levels near Colby on Jan.2, Goodland on Jan.3, Elkhart on Jan.4, and Liberal on Jan.5 (weather permitting).
The project will check the High Plains aquifer as part of an annual water resource review.
