EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Lawrence school board will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. at 711 E. 23rd St to conduct a closed-door midyear evaluation of Superintendent Jeanice Swift — the session will also include a discussion of personnel matters as required by state guidelines. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City contractors will reopen a lane on Tennessee St. from 6th to just south of 9th on Monday, Dec. 15; one lane stays closed for sidewalk work until Friday, Dec. 19. The Iowa St. reconstruction—adding final striping and signs—will reopen by next week beginning Wednesday, Dec. 17. City of Lawrence
- ➤ Members of the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Board and Connected City Advisory Board (ESAB and CCAB) will meet Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026 at 6 p.m. to review Ordinance 9744, which aims for 100% renewable energy by 2035, and to assess its alignment with county sustainability plans. - ➤ Lawrence’s Iowa St. reconstruction project is complete ahead of schedule, with lanes open and final speed signs to be installed on Wednesday, Dec. 17. The upgraded corridor now features new sidewalks, modern lighting, improved drainage & safe routes for pedestrians and bikers. City of Lawrence
