EDUCATION NEWS

  • KU Libraries has introduced international travel grants to support use of its International Collections and in-person librarian consultations on campus. Researchers (faculty, students or independents) outside a 100-mile radius may apply online by March 1 for up to $1,500 in travel funding.  University of Kansas
  • Four Lawrence High students won top prizes in 2D and 3D art at the 29th annual High School Visual Arts Competition in Merriam this week. Their works, judged on color, technique, and presentation, are on display until Dec. 27 at the Tim Murphy Gallery (6040 Slater St.).  The Lawrence Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lawrence will host roundtable discussions on affordable housing with a team of consultants from Dec. 9-11 at the Public Library and Fairgrounds. Community input will also be shared at a study presentation at City Hall on Dec. 10 — efforts aim to shape local housing solutions.  The Lawrence Times
  • On Monday, Dec. 8, the City will begin reconstructing Bob Billings Parkway from Kasold Dr. to Monterey Way and close 27th St. between Iowa St. and Chipperfield Rd. for stormwater upgrades; the Iowa St. reconstruction will finish the week of Dec. 15 while work lasts about 12 months.  City of Lawrence

  • The 2026 World Cup draw in Washington showed Arrowhead Stadium will host group matches this summer including teams from Groups E, F and J. Lionel Scaloni expects Argentina to play in Kansas (the full match schedule is set to be released today).  KCTV
