COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The project team will hold an open house (Dec. 10, 4-7 p.m.) at Venue 1235 to present findings from last month’s North Lawrence corridor visioning session and gather additional community input; a citywide survey will be available from mid-December to mid-January.  The Lawrence Times
  • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity hosts its 21st annual Holiday Homes Tour on Sunday, Dec. 7 from noon to 5 p.m. Six homes, including one with 20 decorated trees, open for visitors; tickets cost $35 and may be picked up at the ReStore (2108 W. 27th St.) at 11 a.m.  The Lawrence Times
  • City officials and community members debated how to improve affordable housing options at the school district’s central offices, 110 McDonald Drive, last evening. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four University of Kansas faculty have received Research-Intensive Course Grants to revise their classes with added research components this fall and into spring with support from the Center for Undergraduate Research + Fellowships. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kansas Geological Survey released two new maps—‘Surface Topography of Kansas: Elevation Hillshade’ and ‘Surface Topography of Kansas: Elevation Contours and Hydrography’—that show elevation changes from 676 ft to 4,039 ft using color-coded shading & contour lines. The maps reveal Kansas’ varied landscape and counter the idea that the state is flat.  University of Kansas
