- ➤ Researchers at KU’s School of Social Welfare received a $3.75 million grant to launch the FORGE partnership that will support engaged fatherhood and boost financial stability in five northeast Kansas counties—Atchison, Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte. The program delivers evidence-based training in parenting and money habits and funds individual case management and community support over five years. University of Kansas
- ➤ Hamburger Mary, a 3-month-old pitbull at the Lawrence Humane Society, hasn't been adopted—shelter staff say she is ideal for a family with cats and kids. The shelter reported she came from an unplanned litter a month ago, and her adoption fee is $300. The Lawrence Times

- ➤ KU professor Elise Kirk is showing her New Town series at Washington University’s Weitman Gallery from Nov 19 through Dec 12—her photographs capture Newtown Creek’s industrial decay and natural beauty. She began the project in 2021 and is expanding her work with archival research that links man-made and natural environments. University of Kansas

- ➤ The City of Lawrence will host a debate titled A Better Debate at the Lawrence school district offices, 110 McDonald Drive, on Dec. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss if the city is doing enough to offer housing for all. Community members may listen, speak with a prepared remark, or ask questions through the debate chair + the event is part of the A Place for Everyone plan signed in May 2024 + registration is required. - ➤ Ladybird Diner owner Meg Heriford said that if Congress does not extend tax subsidies, her and her husband's health insurance premium will jump from $219 to $890 — a change that could force them to go without coverage and risk their health as she works to keep the busy diner running downtown.
