BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lawrence confirmed that Costco has submitted a site plan that is 33% complete and is under review for a new store. The proposed site is northwest of George Williams Way and Mercato Drive with its nearest intersection at Sixth Street and K-10 — just south of Rock Chalk Park.  KSNT 27

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Researchers at KU secured a $1.9 million grant on November 3 to expand a program that helps students with intellectual disability attend college at KU in Lawrence and at partner schools including WSU Tech and Benedictine. The grant will fund teacher training, outreach and new student events—aiming to prepare nearly 50 students for college and future jobs across Kansas.  University of Kansas
  • KU Libraries’ LibArt program celebrated its largest-ever student art exhibition on Oct. 28 at Watson Library. The show featured 260 works from 113 students and awarded prizes to 23 entries in 14 categories — cash prizes supported by KU donors.  University of Kansas
  • The Lawrence school district launched a food drive at schools and the district office on 110 McDonald Drive to help students in need until Nov 19. Donors are asked to drop off shelf-stable items and local groups can join the Adopt A School Pantry project + extra donations will go to the nonprofit Just Food.  The Lawrence Times
