Local writer Will Averill has reworked T.S.

Eliot’s The Waste Land into a new book called Day After the Waste Land that mixes Lawrence stories with sports, local history and childhood tales. The book comes out on Friday, Nov. 14 with a reading on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at Maceli’s Banquet Hall and Catering — and a free Q&A on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Raven Book Store.

On Saturday, Washburn (the Ichabods) lost 27-24 to Missouri Western on the road after trailing 20-10 in the fourth quarter and then briefly taking a 24-20 lead; they will host Emporia State next weekend at Yager Stadium (kickoff 1 p.m.).
