ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at the University of Kansas have released the Kansas Energy Transition Atlas (covering 105 counties) that maps county rules which may help or block wind energy projects. The resource provides key data such as turbine counts and transmission lines so that landowners, officials and developers can plan future energy projects. KSNT 27
- ➤ A KU team led by associate professor Maggie Wagner studied soils from six Kansas sites and found that soil microbes with a history of drought better supported native plants than crops, as detailed in Nature Microbiology. The genetic analysis revealed that the legacy effects of these microbes influenced plant responses to water stress—findings that could help guide future farm practices. University of Kansas
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The University of Kansas Health System’s Care Collaborative and Medical Center announced new initiatives supported by a $12.1 million grant from the Patterson Family Foundation to build specialty care networks that improve rural access.
