- ➤ Three veterans from St. Michael’s Veterans Center received free tickets to the Chiefs’ Salute to Service game on Monday at Arrowhead Stadium against the Washington Commanders—Oliver Allen, a Vietnam veteran, said it was his first game in many years. KMBC

- ➤ The Kansas Livestock Association will hold seven roundtable meetings this week for cattlemen and industry partners to discuss industry challenges and goals—six in-person events with one in Attica today at 6:30 p.m., two on Oct. 30 in Hiawatha and Thayer, two on Nov. 3 in Great Bend and Junction City, and one on Nov. 5, plus a virtual meeting on Nov. 10. The in-person meetings will provide a complimentary beef dinner and the annual convention is scheduled for Nov. 19—21 in Manhattan. KSNT 27

- ➤ Audio-Reader Network at the University of Kansas announced the Arts Accessibility Forum to bring arts experts and members of the disability community together to improve live arts access in Kansas and western Missouri. The project (supported by a Kansas Arts Commission grant) will begin with a program at Theatre Lawrence at 10 a.m. Nov 14 and will include training events through June. University of Kansas

- ➤ The Kansas State Department of Education asked federal officials to combine state and federal school accountability systems into one model that reduces confusion and focuses on student success. The proposed waiver would delay new school designations until the 2028-29 school year – giving more time to build a clear system while the public can review and comment on the plan. KSNT 27
- ➤ The University of Kansas is hosting its 113th Homecoming from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2 with events like a flag football tournament, movie night, and volunteering opportunities, and the week culminates with a football game against Oklahoma State on Nov. 1 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium — finalists for major Homecoming awards will be announced during the game. - ➤ On Monday, the school board approved its 2026 legislative priorities that call for academic freedom, local control, and fully-funded special education in a 5-0 vote—board member Anne Costello resigned and a process to fill the vacancy will begin at the Nov.-10 meeting. - ➤ KU chemistry professor Brian Laird was elected as a fellow of the American Physical Society for his work in developing algorithms for molecular modeling—this honor came after he learned his former colleague Omar Yaghi won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
