EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At 6 p.m. Monday, the Lawrence school board will review a draft list of requests for the Kansas Legislature that asks to fully fund special education, boost state aid to close the teacher pay gap, and maintain local control over curriculum—while also rejecting voucher plans and seeking universal free meals. The board will also hear a report on community programs at Pinckney and hold two closed sessions to discuss legal and personnel issues. The Lawrence Times

- ➤ Volunteers are needed to harvest native prairie seeds at the Ivan Boyd Prairie Preserve near Baldwin City — two events will be held on Oct. 28 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and on Nov. 9 from 2 to 4:30 p.m., with organizers providing gloves, tools and guidance for all ages. The Lawrence Times

- ➤ A new study from the University of Kansas showed that many people wanted to keep distance from those with mental illness and sometimes even from their spouses — the research used simple vignettes to compare responses for depression, schizophrenia, opioid dependence and alcohol dependence with everyday troubles.
