EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The KU School of Music announced its 101st annual Vespers concert with two free performances—one on Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center in Lawrence and one on Dec. 5 at Yardley Hall in Overland Park; tickets will be available in late October through the respective box offices. Audience members must reserve seating through the Midwest Trust Center Box Office. University of Kansas
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Douglas County commissioners voted 5-0 to allow environmental testing for a proposed solar farm on Grant Township land—despite opposition by the township board and affected property owners. The county will seek judicial review and, if the injunction is lifted, Evergy will have until Oct. 22 to complete a six-week testing period. The Lawrence Times
- ➤ The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Lawrence Police Department will soon collect expired and unused medications from the public on Saturday, October 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the sheriff’s office will use its drive-thru dropoff site at the courthouse while the police department will collect at its West Lawrence headquarters. - ➤ Planning commissioners on Wednesday, October 22nd, approved a request from New Boston Crossing developers for a project that will include a sports complex and mixed-use space for entertainment, hotels, apartments and open space — the plan follows years of revisions. The amendment will next go to the Lawrence City Commission and Douglas County Commission for review — public comments raised concerns about environmental impact and local heritage. The Lawrence Times
