CULTURE NEWS

  • KPR will host its 2025 Live Day on Friday, Oct. 24, offering more than seven hours of free classical music broadcast on 91.5 FM and live at the Lawrence Public Library at 707 Vermont St.—local groups perform hourly starting at 9 a.m. and the event ends with a Halloween Spooktacular concert at 7 p.m. with a costume contest at 6:15 p.m.—.  The Lawrence Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Earlier this month, about 70 agriculture and logistics stakeholders met at the Kansas State University IGP building to learn about new export opportunities through the Oklahoma Port of Catoosa. Tulsa Ports is planning to add rail connections to its river terminal—this change may lower export and shipping costs and give Kansas more direct access to the Gulf.  KSNT 27

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KU Chancellor Doug Girod said lower federal research funds, flat state budgets, a drop in college-age students, and rising costs threaten the future of higher education. He noted KU set record enrollment and increased research funding, but new state budget cuts and the rise of artificial intelligence may make things harder—leaving the outlook uncertain.  The Lawrence Times
  • The University of Kansas will mark 70 years of its Counseling Psychology Program with the 2025 Lichtenberg Lecture featuring renowned expert Rod Goodyear on Nov 7 at the Burge Union—Forum C/D from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendees will join a continuing education workshop and celebrate with a commemorative lunch after the lecture.  University of Kansas
  • KU Law will host environmental law scholar Erin Ryan for a public lecture titled 'Law for the Land: The Public Trust Doctrine, Mono Lake and a Quiet Revolution in Environmental Rights' on Oct. 30 from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in 106 Green Hall. The free event (registration is requested) is part of the Big 12 Law Schools Signature Lecture Series and offers options to attend in person or virtually.  University of Kansas
  • The University of Kansas CEAE department will host the 57th annual Geotechnical Engineering Conference on Nov. 6 at the Kansas Union where experts will talk about digital tools and new building methods—registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and sessions begin at 8:30 a.m.  University of Kansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Large crowds have joined No Kings protests nationwide to oppose corruption and what organizers call dictatorship. In Lawrence the protest takes place today on West Sixth and Kentucky Street from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.—organizers expect strong local turnout.  KMBC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kansas Jayhawks are favored by 2.5 points for next Saturday’s Sunflower Showdown at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium — marking the first time KU has been favored since a 52-21 win in 2008 — as the team breaks a 16-year streak in which K-State carried the betting line.  KCTV
