- ➤ Emily Mulvaney’s solo art show 'Preservation of Bodies' will open in Lawrence at Off-Site Art Space on Friday, Sept. 26 from 5 to 7 p.m.—the exhibition features bioplastics and bacteria that shift pigment to explore specimen preservation. - ➤ Director Michelle Miller uses her love of science to lead KU’s production of Silent Sky, a play about astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt that will run Oct. 3-5 at the Crafton-Preyer Theatre. - ➤ On Wednesday, the Lawrence school board approved a $1 raise for education support professionals by moving the minimum hourly wage from $14.02 to $15.46 and adding benefits like full insurance, illness leave, and a new catastrophic leave pool—98% of union members had ratified the 2025-26 contract before the vote. - ➤ Hilltop Child Development Center announced that most classrooms at its west campus will close temporarily due to staffing shortages and past challenges — affected children will move to the main campus, with the center closing at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 and new classroom visits scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
