- ➤ Nominations are open for the 25th annual Phoenix Awards—this milestone event honors local artistic achievement with 10 award categories plus a Creative Spaces Award and has an extended deadline to Friday, October 31 at 4:00 p.m. City officials invite residents to nominate deserving local artists, educators, and organizations. - ➤ Lawrence Public Library will host Booktoberfest for adult readers with events that include book trivia, an after-hours scavenger hunt, film discussions, and a screening of 'Rebel with a Clause' featuring documentary subject Ellen Jovin.
