  • Harvesters is highlighting September as Hunger Action Month to draw attention to hunger in its large service area—covering 27 counties in northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. The food bank plans to encourage local efforts to support those in need as the month continues.  KCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Norman Akers, a KU professor and Osage Nation member, is showing his new exhibition at Temple University in Philadelphia—he paints layered images that ask questions about indigeneity, history and our world. The exhibit runs from Sept. 5 to Dec. 19 and he will give an artist talk on Sept. 12 with a reception to follow.  University of Kansas

  • Four candidates for Lawrence City Commission will attend two forums at Peaslee Tech—one on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. and another on Monday, Sept. 22, where former mayors will ask unsent questions to help the public get to know them before the Nov. 4 election.  The Lawrence Times

  • Kansas football beat Wagner 46-7 — the win improved its record to 2-0 as the team played its first away game of the season in Columbia, Missouri where it faced its archrival.  KCTV
