Lawrence residents can meet over 35 nonprofit groups at the free Douglas County Volunteer Expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.

9 at Flory Meeting Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds + the event helps locals find volunteer opportunities that match their interests.

Haskell Indian Nations University will host a Centennial Homecoming Celebration from Friday, Sept.

18 through Saturday, Sept. 19 to honor 100 years of its historic stadium and arch built by the Native community. The festivities include a stick ball game, powwows (1 p.m. and 6 p.m.), and a bison harvest with a community feed on campus.

The Haskell Indian Art Market will be held at Powwow Grounds on Haskell campus from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept.

12 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, featuring over 130 exhibitors serving traditional foods, beadwork, and live entertainment — a chance for cultural exchange.

The University of Kansas Office of Community Impact designated 26 community partners as Champions and Hubs for 2026.

Seven Champions receive a one-time $1,500 while 19 Hubs are awarded $5,000 to support community-engaged scholarship on campus and beyond.

Lawrence Transit is offering free rides from downtown parking to KU football home games this season.
