  • On Wednesday morning, friends, family and fellow officers gathered to honor Hunter Simoncic — they said their final goodbyes during a solemn ceremony.  KCTV
  • Lawrence neighbors are invited to help paint a new street mural near the Lawrence Community Nursery School with local artist Dave Loewenstein and community input; painting runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Seventh and Alabama streets — the event includes entertainment and food.  The Lawrence Times

  • Jefferson County officials are leading the search for Patrick Crim after he went missing from the ABATE Bike Rally at Paradise Point in Ozawkie on Aug. 30th—he was last seen at 9:45 p.m. wearing a tan t-shirt, black shorts and slide-on sandals.  KSNT 27

CULTURE NEWS

  • Freedom’s Frontier received a $500,000 federal funding release on Tuesday after six months of delay, ensuring it can preserve historic sites in Kansas and Missouri for another year—local representatives had pushed to secure the funds before they expired on Sept. 30. The support will help the organization continue its mission of protecting our history and boosting tourism in the region.  The Lawrence Times

  • A KU professor released a book that details the Kansas Court of Industrial Relations—a court that regulated labor from 1920 to 1925 with strict policies and set early precedents for workers' rights. His work explains how the court's actions, seen as a dangerous experiment in social control, continue to influence debates over labor law today.  University of Kansas
  • U.S. Senators Moran and Marshall introduced a resolution to honor Officer Hunter Simoncic—who died on Aug. 26 while trying to stop a high-speed chase—on the day of his funeral as his community mourned his loss.  KCTV
