🎓 Education
KU alumna and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara will headline the KU Reads event on Oct.
8, speaking about her spaceflight experience and engaging with local experts during a Q&A session. The free event (in the Kansas Union Ballroom) also includes public telescope viewing after the discussion.
The University Honors Program at KU has added five new faculty fellows for fall 2026 (including experts in early childhood intervention and emerging technologies) to mentor students and lead seminars.
🏛️ Government
A KU journalism graduate and former Stars and Stripes editors are suing the Pentagon over an alleged wrongful firing — the legal battle may impact media rights and bring local attention to press freedom.
🏈 Sports
Military aircraft will fly over campus on Thursday and Friday ahead of KU’s season opener, with a practice run at noon and a final flyover minutes before a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Sharks.
T-38 Talons from the 509th Bomb Wing (from Whiteman Air Force Base) will perform the maneuvers.
