Good morning, Lawrence.

Ken Lassman of the Kaw Valley Almanac shares this week’s nature update.
He describes a gray hairstreak butterfly feeding on a partridge pea flower to show how local seasonal cycles follow the patterns early settlers saw (a pattern our community still enjoys).
Lawrence High student Liam Sturm built a prototype that measures river water quality (temperature, pH, turbidity, and dissolved solids) and is testing it on a section of the Kansas River.
He plans to upgrade the system with weatherproof sensors so residents can view real-time data by late September.
