EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Kansas Extended Learning will offer face to face Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification training this fall at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park. The five-day course runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays from Sept 26 to Oct 24, costs $2,495 with lunch provided and offers discounts for federal and KU employees, and it will be taught by Heather McCain. - ➤ Freshman at the University of Kansas are moving into Lawrence this week — beginning a new chapter as they settle in for classes and dorm life. KCTV
- ➤ KU Reads programming this school year will include a free talk by John Green on his essay collection The Anthropocene Reviewed—this common book is the focus of campus discussions and art projects. The talk will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Lied Center while ticket sales begin on Aug. 18 for KU IDs and Aug. 22 for the public with a four-ticket limit per person. - ➤ On August 15, 16 undergraduates presented original research at the KU TRIO McNair Scholars Summer Research Symposium after months of mentoring and preparation—demonstrating their progress across diverse fields from civil engineering to linguistics. University of Kansas
- ➤ KU researchers analyzed a dozen veteran music therapists to determine the core skills needed for effective music therapy sessions. The study, published May 29, emphasizes that therapists must adapt to different styles of music—ranging from traditional hymns to modern pop—to meet clients' varied needs. University of Kansas
- ➤ The Dole Institute at KU received up to $200,000 in federal funding on August 15 to expand its American Congress Digital Archives Portal and boost its K-12 civics education programs—digitizing thousands of records and audiovisual materials for public access.
