Downtown Lawrence has seen more striped skunks near shops—Love Garden introduced stinker stickers to mark their presence.
Kelly Corcoran first spotted the animals four or five months ago—now the $2 stickers are available in-store and online.
On Friday at 4:15 p.m., a motorcyclist died in a crash at 21st Street and Naismith Drive near the University of Kansas — police said the car's driver was not seriously injured — and authorities urged locals to avoid the area.
The Lawrence Lions Alumni Association announced six inductees into the Hall of Honor including distinguished educators, athletes, and public leaders from Lawrence High School and Liberty Memorial High School.
The induction ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at 1901 Louisiana St.—all are welcome.
A Kansas Senate President called on federal agencies on Aug.
8 to force the SNAP program to follow USDA requests—he said the program must change to meet the agency's rules. Federal officials have yet to respond to the call.
The City of Lawrence Parks, Recreation and Culture Department announced the creation of the John and Carol Nalbandian Fund (a $25,000 gift) from Dr. John Nalbandian (a former mayor and KU professor emeritus) to help residents access parks and recreation programs; the program is managed by the Douglas County Community Foundation.
Kansas health officials say a health advisory is in effect at Pillsbury Crossing Wildlife Area in Riley & Wabaunsee Counties after dangerous blue-green algae mats were found.
The KDHE and KDWP are monitoring the situation and urge residents and pet owners to avoid touching, eating, or transporting the algae mats to prevent exposure to harmful toxins.
