CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission will meet on Wednesday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall — the meeting will be held as a hybrid event with both in-person and online participation, and public comment must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.  City of Lawrence

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On August 7, nearly 150 first-year teachers in Lawrence attended a breakfast where they received advice & supplies and had their questions answered as they prepared for the new school year.  KCTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lawrence announced a new timeline for the Outdoor Aquatic Center project so the pool stays open for the 2025 and 2026 swim seasons—restroom renovations will begin late 2025 and aquatic upgrades, including a zero-depth entry pool, will follow after the 2026 season. Changes depend on keeping bids within budget and may adjust if emergency repairs are needed.  City of Lawrence
  • Lawrence's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 11 at City Hall in the City Commission Room and the agenda is posted online. Public members may attend in person or join via Zoom (technical issues might affect virtual access).  City of Lawrence

  • KU Athletics announced that local food and drink partners—ranging from Johnny’s Tavern and Tiki Taco to Boulevard Brewing Company and Pepsi—will serve fans at the newly renovated Booth Memorial Stadium for the upcoming football season.  KCTV
