  • Camp Encourage received a donation check from KCTV5’s 3 Degree Guarantee program—supporting its mission to empower youth on the autism spectrum with meaningful experiences. CRIME NEWS

  • City officials said that about 500 tires were dumped along a hillside near Blue River Trail — cleanup efforts are planned soon.  KCTV
  • The Justice Department said it planned to seek federal hate crime charges and the death penalty against Elias Rodriguez, who fatally shot Kansas native Sarah Milgrim and Israeli official Yaron Lischinsky outside the Capital Jewish Museum on May 21 — prosecutors must prove antisemitic intent.  KCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • KU Libraries will host a student-curated exhibit Travel, Tourism, and the Transmission of Knowledge in and Around Japan opening on Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the Kenneth Spencer Research Library exhibit gallery — the show displays items dated from 1646 to 1936 and gives visitors a chance to meet the student curators.  University of Kansas

  • Researchers at KU published guidelines to help schools use artificial intelligence responsibly from preschool through college. The framework—created by the Center for Innovation, Design & Digital Learning with the U.S. Department of Education’s support—is designed to keep teachers, parents, and students in charge of AI decisions.  University of Kansas

  • Local experts Courtney King and Courtney Masterson urge Lawrencians to replace traditional lawns with native grasses and wildflowers to restore habitats and improve water quality this season.
