Community members toured the decade-long Free State High School prairie restoration project on Sunday —where local wildlife and blooming wildflowers showcased ten years of work—and saw how the 1.4-acre field has become a key ecology research area.

A Lawrence man trained in jiu-jitsu stopped a suspect who broke into a woman's apartment through a window and pretended to be a police officer when he attacked her—he held the suspect until police arrived, and both the victim and the man sustained only minor injuries.

On May 10, KU’s Department of Chemistry honored nearly 80 top students with awards for the spring, summer and 2025-26 academic year and announced over $472,000 in scholarships for undergraduates and graduate students.

The event — attended by donors, alumni and faculty — highlighted achievements in academics and research.

Blake Wilson was named director of KU Law’s Wheat Law Library with his appointment effective May 25.

He brings nearly twenty years of experience at the library—preparing him to expand digital collections and improve services for students and faculty.

Ten KU faculty members have been selected for the Senior Administrative Fellows Program (2025 to 2026) that will mentor them in developing academic leadership at the university.

Lawrence city commissioners will hold a public hearing today at City Hall to consider about $750,000 in property tax breaks and related incentives for The Peaks, a new senior affordable housing development at 5275 W.

Sixth St.—the meeting will also review plans for a 14-lot Fall Creek Villas project and the city's annual financial report.
