CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Kelly Werts, a multi-instrumentalist from Junction City, was nominated to the Kansas Music Hall of Fame for the class of 2025—he will be honored at Liberty Hall in Lawrence on Nov. 22. This nomination follows nearly 30 years of performing traditional and acoustic music across the Midwest. KSNT 27
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Free State High School will host an open house to celebrate 10 years of its prairie restoration project on August 3rd from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the prairie behind the football stadium at 4700 Overland Drive—tours by teachers and local experts will explain the restoration and donations will support its care. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County Clerk Jamie Shew said about 1.6% of voters have cast ballots in the city primary, with 583 in-person votes and about 430 advance ballots returned so far. Lawrence voters can still cast ballots at drop boxes or in person before Tuesday’s election. The Lawrence Times
- ➤ Governor Kelly signed a proclamation making August No-Kill Shelter Month to boost efforts to save Kansas pets by aiming for at least 90% of animals to leave shelters alive—Best Friends Animal Society praised the move and urged locals to work together. KSNT 27
