ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 30-year-old Lawrence cyclist was struck just after 8 p.m. Tuesday on North 1400 Road near Eudora by a Honda Element driven by a 70-year-old Lawrence man and died Wednesday evening in hospital—officials will complete a formal crash report. The Lawrence Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Kansas centers formed a partnership through the Achievement & Assessment Institute to blend STEM education with physical performance training so that local middle and high school students can gain hands-on practice in sports medicine, exercise science and strength training. The Center for Educational Opportunity Programs and the Well-Fit Center for Youth Wellness and Fitness will support students from several counties via an Upward Bound summer program — which offers early career insight in STEM — and GEAR UP programs with age-appropriate content. - ➤ University of Kansas Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bill Self was admitted to the hospital on Thursday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after he experienced concerning symptoms and received two stents — he is now in good spirits and is expected to be released soon. KSNT 27
- ➤ Bill Self, head coach for KU Men’s Basketball, was hospitalized in Lawrence on July 24 due to chest tightness and balance concerns—he underwent a standard procedure and was discharged from the hospital. Kansas Athletics said he is expected to make a full recovery so the team will start the season with him. KCTV
