ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A bicyclist was seriously injured Tuesday evening in Douglas County when a car hit him—local authorities blocked N 1400 Road between E 2000 Road and Winchester Road while investigators examined the scene—and he was taken to a Kansas City area hospital. FOX 4
- ➤ A Lawrence cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening outside Eudora on the 2200 block of North 1400 Road and a 70-year-old motorist driving a Honda Element was also traveling westbound; medics transported the cyclist to a Kansas City-area hospital while investigators closed the road for a few hours before reopening it. - ➤ Hospital staff said that a 2-month-old baby died exactly two months after his birth from assault injuries — a conclusion that has led authorities to classify the death as a homicide. KCTV

- ➤ Monroe Hanson with Trans Lawrence Coalition now teaches a monthly aerial silks class that gives queer and trans folks a safe space for creative exercise in a welcoming home studio in Lawrence. The affordable $10 workshop meets on the second Wednesday of each month (next on Aug. 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.) and lets participants learn together in a supportive setting. The Lawrence Times

- ➤ The City of Lawrence Municipal Court is hosting its third annual School Supplies for Fines program—participants purchase $15 worth of approved school supplies and bring the receipt to receive a $50 credit toward outstanding traffic and parking fines until August 23, while downtown meter citations issued after January 1 are excluded. - ➤ KU researcher Deanna Hanson-Abromeit at the Life Span Institute advocated a scientific framework called the Therapeutic Function of Music Plan—which clarifies how music elements support targeted change—and used her federally funded study to test music therapy for encouraging language development in infants and toddlers.
