CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ An online casting call rumored for a Ted Lasso shoot raised worries among locals after it was posted on July 14 — community leaders are now checking its legitimacy. Officials will update residents if the production is confirmed — they stress the need for caution. KCTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a meeting Monday, the Lawrence school board elected GR Gordon-Ross as president + Bob Byers as vice president after others declined nomination. The board also approved a $208,000 contract to renovate Woodlawn Elementary to add a restroom and second exit for a new preschool program + work will be carried out by ACI Boland Architects and B.A. Green Construction. - ➤ The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute released its fall 2025 catalog with 50 noncredit courses and eight special events for adults 50 and older—19 courses are new. It will hold a preview event on July 16 at the St. Andrews Office Facility and course registration will open at 5 p.m. that day. University of Kansas
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A KU study from July 14 found that cities with a proactive, risk-tolerant governance style are more likely to adopt ambitious climate resilience policies. The research showed these cities join FEMA's Community Rating System at higher rates—indicating they exceed basic flood risk measures. University of Kansas

- ➤ The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Advisory Board said they will not support charging residents to use rec centers, noting fees would start at $250 per adult and affect vulnerable residents.
