GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Thirteen candidates are running for the Lawrence City Commission in the primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 5, with the top four advancing to the general election for two seats. Voters should note key dates—July 15 is the final day for registration and early voting begins July 16—as candidates share their views on issues such as affordable housing and government communication. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Swope Health CEO Jaron Ravin said about 20,000 Medicaid patients, roughly 40% of his care base, face a loss of benefits due to new federal changes in the tax and spending law. He urged patients to check their paperwork carefully — keeping accurate records may help them stay covered as the hospital prepares for a 5 to 12 million dollar funding cut. KMBC
