The KU Wind Ensemble returned from Osaka, Japan where it represented the United States at the World Expo by performing three major concerts — including a Fourth of July concert at the USA Pavilion — and holding joint shows with Osaka University of the Arts.
The tour also featured a performance by the KU Midway Brass Quintet and helped set a record with over 177,000 visitors on June 30.
Lawrence Parks & Rec has proposed charging annual memberships—$250 per adult and $150 for seniors or youths—to help cover its share of the city's $6 million deficit next year; the plan offers discounted rates for financially stressed households and will be discussed at upcoming meetings on Monday and Tuesday.
The City of Lawrence is taking applications for forgivable, no-interest and no-payment loans to help property owners repair homes and improve energy efficiency—loans offer up to $24,000 for emergency repairs or up to $60,000 for comprehensive work and will be forgiven over five or seven years with eligibility based on occupancy and income limits. Residents must have owned and occupied their property and kept current on payments to qualify.
The Connected City Advisory Board will meet Monday, July 14th at 5:30 p.m. at Central Transit Station—2315 Bob Billings Pkwy in Lawrence to advise on plans for maintaining the city’s infrastructure.
