Lawrence Public Schools announced that Cole Amaya will serve as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning starting July 1—he comes from Kansas City, Kansas and has held several leadership roles while Jennifer Georgie, a 22-year district veteran who helped improve student support, will serve as interim principal of Sunset Hill Elementary as the search for a permanent principal begins.

The Lawrence school board approved a 10-cent increase to full-price meals for the 2025-26 school year in a 7–0 vote to meet USDA guidelines and avoid using the general fund.

New prices set elementary lunch at $3.10, middle at $3.30, and high school at $3.35—breakfast rates rose similarly.
