CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 23-year-old Kansas City woman was arrested in Lawrence on charges of theft, felony flee and elude and an out-of-state warrant after a stolen car chase that began at 10:20 a.m. on June 16 ended when she lost control near 31st and Iowa Streets—she suffered minor injuries and tried to run—while a Douglas County deputy was involved in a minor crash near 33rd and Iowa Streets. - ➤ KU alumnus David Seitz pledged $15 million to the KU School of Medicine to fund 17 full-tuition scholarships for in-state medical students—favoring candidates from Ellsworth and those planning to practice family medicine—as a tribute to his family’s long commitment to rural Kansas healthcare. - ➤ The public is invited to attend a summer solstice tour at 7 p.m. on June 20 at the KU Native Medicinal Plant Research Garden in Lawrence. The garden (located east of Lawrence Municipal Airport at 1865 East 1600 Road) will feature senior scientist Kelly Kindscher explaining the research and historical uses of the native plants. - ➤ Haskell Indian Nations University has named Mackie Moore as interim president after former president Frank Arpan resigned—Moore, an alumnus and dean of the College of Business, brings 20 years of experience in tribal and higher education to lead daily operations. The Bureau of Indian Education will work with the Haskell Board of Regents as it begins its national search for a permanent president. KCTV

- ➤ A report by the Dole Institute & Kennedy Institute finds that local election administrators lack steady funding, proper staffing, and updated technology while local governments cover about 85% of election costs using just 0.5% of their budgets. - ➤ Data from AllThingsMissouri.org show that in Kansas, Wabaunsee and Johnson Counties lead with a life expectancy of 80.6 years while Kingman County records only 61 years+three counties lack available data.
