Good morning, Lawrence.

KU researchers and the Kansas Board of Regents are assessing local school needs to boost literacy through the Blueprint for Literacy initiative, which aims to raise reading proficiency to 90% and will launch its Literacy Bridges resource on June 30.

On Tuesday, Lawrence commissioners approved tax breaks including an 80% property tax rebate for 10 years and industrial revenue bonds to help Alarm.com redevelop the former Climb building at 714 Vermont St. The project provides 13,834 sqft of office space and will add 30 jobs to its 36+ team.

Yesterday, about 50 community members attended a Lawrence City Commission meeting to urge a temporary moratorium on data centers while the city considers new regulations to safeguard local neighborhoods and farmland from increased utility strain and pollution.

The Veterans Legal Support Clinic at KU Law will host a free Lunch and Learn on suicide prevention, de-escalation and personal wellness for veterans, law enforcement and first responders on June 16 at Burge Union on campus.

The event features educational sessions, a resource fair and a community lunch.
