- ➤ Lawrence PRIDE will take place on Saturday, June 7 with a free parade starting at 11 a.m. at Seventh and Rhode Island that moves through downtown before a party fills South Park with drag shows, live music and food until 8 p.m.—A preview event on June 6 at Lucia and an adults-only after-party at the Granada Theater add extra celebration options. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A KU study shows that a teacher and her eighth-grade English class form their own way of thinking about literature using a method called languaging—students use gestures and discussion to build their understanding. Lead researcher Min-Young Kim noted that this approach makes students active partners in constructing their thinking—helping them connect more deeply with the material. University of Kansas
- ➤ Families and former teachers said that special education at Lawrence Public Schools caused years of trauma, with Annette Camlin recounting how her son Calen—who has autism and a chronic health condition—was marked truant and denied needed therapy and accommodations. - ➤ Lawrence City Commission voted 3—1 Tuesday to stop livestreaming meetings on YouTube to comply with a new state law taking effect July 1. The meetings will be recorded and posted later while residents can join via Zoom, though some say the feed does not show speakers clearly. The Lawrence Times
