CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Lawrence man, identified as Paul W. Holladay (43), crashed his car and fled police early Sunday on June 1 but was quickly caught when his vehicle struck a fence at W 27th Terrace and Lawrence Avenue, and he now faces several charges including a felony. KCTV
- ➤ Local animal welfare groups warned on social media that scammers have created fake Venmo accounts to steal donations, with Operation Wildlife alerting donors on Friday, May 30 & the Lawrence Humane Society stating that its only account is a business account. KCTV
- ➤ Officers responded to a standoff at a mobile home park near W 33rd and Iowa on May 31 when a 20-year-old threatened with a firearm refused to leave his residence amid concerns of children inside—after a negotiator convinced him to surrender safely, he was arrested on charges including aggravated assault and failure to appear, and no children were found. - ➤ Lawrence police said on June 1 that two men were taken to a hospital after an argument at an apartment on West Sixth Street and Michigan Street resulted in knife injuries—police later arrested the man with a head wound after determining he acted in self-defense. KSNT 27
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Seven candidates, including three incumbents and four challengers, filed to run for Lawrence school board volunteer spots with four-year terms as the race will appear on Tuesday, Nov. 4 ballots — the filing deadline closed Monday, and voters must register by Oct. 14. - ➤ The KU Department of Theatre & Dance recognized 30 students at its award banquet on June 2nd for their academic merit and contributions to performances—many awards include over $30,000 in financial support.
