EDUCATION NEWS

  • KU Student Affairs will lead the return of the homecoming parade after seven years along Jayhawk Boulevard on the KU campus at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 — registered groups must apply by Oct. 9.  University of Kansas
  • Ten Kansas science teachers are attending the Ecosystems of Kansas Summer Institute at the KU Field Station north of Lawrence from today until June 5. Guided by KU researchers, they will explore local streams, prairies, and woodlands to enhance hands-on science learning.  University of Kansas
  • Daphne Tibbetts, a KU graduate from Auburn, was selected for the 2026 Rubinstein/Mason Award to support her graduate study in library science, and she will attend Indiana University-Bloomington in the fall to work with the Korean language collection. The award honors her passion for libraries as she prepares to become a Korean studies librarian.  University of Kansas
  • The University of Kansas has launched the Center for Workplace Excellence to help businesses and nonprofits build workforce skills through customizable professional development programs (supported by JCERT) and leadership coaching at KU's Overland Park campus.   • Sustainability Action Network is hosting a wildfire preparation workshop in Lawrence on Thursday, June 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Flory Building (Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St) where Kansas Forest Service specialist Shawna Hartman will explain home defensible zones and fire-resistant building techniques.  The Lawrence Times

  • The City of Lawrence will offer a $2 discount on downtown parking when visitors use mobile apps and enter code SCORELAWRENCE26 from June 8 through June 30 to boost local visits for events, dining, and shopping.  City of Lawrence
