CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Lawrence’s annual Unmistakable Public Art Exhibition showcases six World Cup-themed artworks downtown. The event features an opening reception and walking tour (5:30 p.m. Friday, June 5 at Ninth and Massachusetts) and a second tour (5:30 p.m. Friday, June 29) while digital tours are available via Otocast. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The KU Department of Theatre & Dance recognized 30 students on Friday, May 29 for their creative and academic achievements during its year-end awards ceremony — the honors celebrated excellence in both theatre and dance. University of Kansas
- ➤ Starting this summer, the University of Kansas will require a valid parking permit in all campus lots, including housing and overnight areas. Green lots will need permits from June 1 to July 24 and public parking in lots 300 and 302 will be available for a fee — a shuttle will run every 15 minutes to connect to transit. - ➤ CREES announced the winners of the 31st annual Laird Essay Contest yesterday at KU. Naomi Galindo earned the graduate prize ($500 and $75 in books) while Dagan Fultz won the undergraduate division ($250), with both students recognized for their insightful essays. University of Kansas

- ➤ Patrick Schmidt’s campaign manager, Ryon Carey, uploaded documents to a website that linked his rival, Adam Hamilton, to past child safety complaints as part of Schmidt’s challenge. The site went offline Wednesday after a replacement with similar content briefly appeared amid the ongoing Senate race. The Lawrence Times
- ➤ The Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization began updating its Countywide Bikeway Plan to improve cycling infrastructure in Eudora, Baldwin City, Lecompton (and unincorporated Douglas County). Community feedback is sought via an online survey open May 28 to June 29, with the final plan set to be ready by year-end 2026. City of Lawrence
