- ➤ Fourteen KU Law students received awards for scholarship, leadership and service this spring at the KU Law hooding ceremony on May 17—local recipients Karen Campbell and Joshua Lollar were among those honored. Emma Mays was chosen as the banner carrier for her exceptional academic and service achievements. University of Kansas
- ➤ Denise Johnson, a longtime district employee, was named interim principal at Prairie Park Elementary School and will begin her role on July 1—she has served as director of elementary curriculum for 20 years. Superintendent Jeanice Swift said Johnson will work with retired Darcy Kraus to support trauma-informed leadership as the district holds a fall search for a permanent principal. The Lawrence Times

- ➤ Immigration attorneys said that after cases were dismissed in Kansas City's immigration court on Tuesday, clients were arrested by ICE agents — placed into expedited removal. Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation held a protest outside the courtroom, and one protester traveled from Lawrence to back the call for fair hearings. KCTV
