- ➤ BLS numbers showed the consumer price index rose 3.8% in April, with gas prices soaring 28.4% largely due to the Iran conflict, UMKC finance professor Nathan Mauck said; AAA reported Kansas gas prices at $4.01, and local shoppers are feeling the pinch plus wages lag behind rising costs. KMBC

- ➤ KU assistant professor Joonmo Kang released research yesterday linking academic conference travel to over 1,383 metric tons of CO₂ from 1,677 presenters+ the study urged education leaders to consider alternatives like virtual meetings and regional hubs to lower emissions. University of Kansas
- ➤ KU professor Amy Hansen received a Fulbright award (2026 to 2027) to study water mixing in Chile and will conduct field research for three months starting in spring 2027. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Kansas Department of Health is monitoring three people in Kansas City for possible hantavirus exposure (all had high-risk contact on an international flight) and they are at the University of Kansas Hospital. Missouri officials said they are not monitoring cases while the CDC tracks the virus. KCTV
