Seven puppies were found abandoned on a busy road off Highway K4 near Meriden last weekend and are now in isolation at the Jefferson County Humane Society, where veterinarians will assess their health & begin vaccinations, microchipping and spaying or neutering them before adoption.
The Spencer Museum of Art and Charlotte Street have announced the Rocket Grants 2025 call for artists in Lawrence & Kansas City area, with applications accepted online until June 25.
An information session will be held on May 15 at the Spencer Museum of Art from 6 to 7 p.m. for interested applicants to learn more about the program.
The University of Kansas has chosen Jide Wintoki as the new dean of the School of Business and he will start his role on July 1.
Wintoki, who joined KU in 2008, is currently the associate dean of graduate programs.
Lawrence high school students will receive MacBook laptops next year after using iPads this past year because high schoolers showed strong interest in returning to MacBooks, district officials said during a board meeting (May 12).
The district will finance the $4.2 million lease over three years and include Apple support to cover repair and maintenance costs.
Courtney Ellis, a Lawrence Public Schools alum, was named the next assistant principal and athletic director of Billy Mills Middle School effective July 1—she will replace Sara Murray, who becomes principal at Quail Run Elementary.
Ellis earned her bachelor’s at the University of Kansas and her master’s at Fort Hays State University — and she has served as an interventionist and teacher at Deerfield, Quail Run, Schwegler and West Middle School.
KU senior Maddie Souser was named to the ALL IN 2024 Student Voting Honor Roll for her leadership on the Civic Engagement Leadership Council—her work has boosted nonpartisan voter registration and civic engagement on campus.
The honor, which recognizes over 230 students for their efforts during the 2024 election cycle, reflects her commitment to civic education.
