EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Kansas leaders urge faculty, staff, graduate students and upper-class undergrads to volunteer for the Jayhawks Give A Flock bystander intervention program on August 10 and 16—where volunteers will help incoming students learn to stop risky behavior. The program, run by the Sexual Assault Prevention & Education Center, offers free meals, comprehensive training and child care on August 16.  University of Kansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawrence officials announced updated homeless rules that require nonresidents to return to their home communities if they do not secure permanent housing in Douglas County—Misty Bosch-Hastings said the change is meant to ensure the county’s limited resources help those in need. The new policy will guide assessments and confirm support from receiving agencies before services are provided.  KCTV
  • Today, the City of Lawrence updated its homeless service policy that began in August 2024 to make sure local residents receive priority help. The new plan says former Lawrence residents count as non-residents and that people must secure permanent housing plus confirmed support to regain eligibility—changes meant to use limited resources wisely—.  City of Lawrence
  • Lawrence Transit announced Monday that Felice Lavergne, who served as interim director, has been named the permanent director after a nationwide search—she will take over from Adam Weigel, who left late last year.  The Lawrence Times
