CRIME NEWS

  • Lawrence police are searching for 10-year-old Sterling Brown who was last seen Thursday afternoon riding a toy motorbike in the 800 block of Sunset Drive (2:30 p.m.) while wearing a Pokémon T-shirt and dark green shorts, and they urge anyone who sees him to call 911 immediately.  KMBC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lawrence Art Guild is hosting Art Spaces on May 3 and 4 with over 40 local artists showing their work across town. Featured artist Chris North and her husband Tom North will demonstrate their creative process in their central west side studio space—offering visitors a close look at unique art techniques.  The Lawrence Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ten KU students received the 2025 Tradition of Excellence Award for leadership on campus— they were honored on April 24 at the Jayhawk Welcome Center and each winner earned a $1,000 scholarship along with $200 to donate to a KU Endowment fund of their choice.  University of Kansas
  • The University of Kansas named David Dietz as the new dean of the School of Pharmacy—he will begin on August 1—and he will lead faculty, manage budgets and strengthen research and academic programs at the school.  University of Kansas

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Monarch Watch has launched its spring plant fundraiser with an online sale of pollinator-friendly plants—milkweed, lantana, and phlox—that must be picked up on May 7, 8, or 10 with a minimum purchase of $20 and free curbside delivery on orders of $100 or more. The funds support a University of Kansas-based monarch conservation program, and the free open house at Foley Hall on KU’s West Campus will offer lab tours, games, and facepainting from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10.  The Lawrence Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kelly declared a state of disaster today as Kansas and other states face fuel shortages and long lines at the pumps. The emergency proclamation lasts 14 days — it waives federal driving hour limits to help boost fuel deliveries, with western areas like Scott City and Great Bend most affected.  KSNT 27

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Kansas Jayhawk Conference approved a bylaw that will require schools to reserve at least 25 percent of athletic letters of intent for Kansas athletes starting in 2026. The rule also limits out-of-state offers to no more than 75 percent of total offers—impacting all sports programs.  KCTV
