  • Wildman Web Solutions got The Lawrence Times back online after the website went down Friday, April 17. The team set up a temporary site at LKSTimes.com where readers can find news, events, and job listings while they work to restore the regular website.  The Lawrence Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lawrence Times earned 12 awards from the Kansas Press Association including four first-place wins and two for coverage of homelessness solutions (honoring reporter Wulffe Wulfemeyer, student photojournalist Kramer and others for education stories, photography and social media). The paper competed with larger publications in Division VII.  The Lawrence Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Kansas has named Joshua Newman as dean of the School of Education and Human Sciences, beginning July 1. Newman, formerly associate dean for research at Florida State University, will support academic programs, build partnerships, and enhance the school’s research — a key move to boost student success.  University of Kansas
  • Sam Zipper, a KU assistant professor and ecohydrologist at the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS), received a Fulbright award and will travel to Sweden this fall to research the High Plains aquifer at Stockholm University and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. His study will assess how water use affects agriculture.  University of Kansas
  • A KU study finds high school journalism classes are teaching business skills through real-world tasks like selling ads and fundraising (methods that build indirect financial literacy). The study, published Tuesday, Apr. 21, recommends enhancing curricula to formally include business lessons.  University of Kansas
  • Mathew and Kelly Stava pledged $2.5 million to fund KU’s new entrepreneurship hub, with groundbreaking planned this spring to offer students a space to connect + create and build business skills. Their donation ensures a sustainable program for all majors.  University of Kansas
  • The Kansas Board of Regents approved a three-year contract for KU faculty and academic staff on Monday after nearly two years of negotiations, which includes a 1% salary raise this year and will take effect in April 2029 if state approval is received.  The Lawrence Times
  • Seven KU seniors will share their international research at a symposium from 3 to 5 p.m. on April 23 at Alderson Auditorium in Kansas Union (their final project in the Global Scholars program).  University of Kansas
