- ➤ Lawrence Times earned 12 awards from the Kansas Press Association including four first-place wins and two for coverage of homelessness solutions (honoring reporter Wulffe Wulfemeyer, student photojournalist Kramer and others for education stories, photography and social media). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Kansas has named Joshua Newman as dean of the School of Education and Human Sciences, beginning July 1. Newman, formerly associate dean for research at Florida State University, will support academic programs, build partnerships, and enhance the school’s research — a key move to boost student success. - ➤ Sam Zipper, a KU assistant professor and ecohydrologist at the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS), received a Fulbright award and will travel to Sweden this fall to research the High Plains aquifer at Stockholm University and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. - ➤ A KU study finds high school journalism classes are teaching business skills through real-world tasks like selling ads and fundraising (methods that build indirect financial literacy).
