- ➤ Haskell Indian Nations University students will present 'Wounspe Wanktya—A College Education' Friday, Apr. 17 in the Haskell Auditorium at 2425 Choctaw Ave, where an all-Native cast offers a heartwarming off-book play based on their own college experiences—A Q&A with playwright Alexandra Hesbrook Ramier will follow. - ➤ The City of Lawrence has installed 'Inclusion Starts with the Heart,' a new public art sculpture in South Park near Massachusetts and North Park streets; the 70-80 pound piece, built with input from over 100 community members, will be on display until August 2026. City of Lawrence

- ➤ The University of Kansas School of Business hosted the sixth KU Professional Selling Program/King’s Hawaiian Sales Competition in Lawrence April 7-8, where 15 teams from across the country competed in speed-selling and team case rounds; the University of Iowa team won first place. - ➤ Jennifer Vardeman, director at UH’s Jack J. Valenti School of Communication, is the final candidate in KU’s Journalism and Mass Communications dean search. She will present her ideas on April 16 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at 1020 Capitol Federal Hall, with feedback accepted until April 21. University of Kansas
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ KU Field Station will host the grand opening of Rice Woodland Trail (the first public trail at Baldwin Woods Forest Preserve) on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the trailhead (1727 North 500 Road) in Baldwin City; the trail will be open daily until dusk. The Lawrence Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Lawrence announced that 9th Street will be closed through Mississippi Street starting Monday, April 20 for the final phase of the Jayhawk Watershed project. Contractors will complete 250 feet of storm tunnel, with traffic detoured to 6th Street and transit stops updated to support local business. City of Lawrence
- ➤ City commissioners voted Tuesday to pause the clawback of $558,000 from Bert Nash to allow more time to secure funding for supportive housing. The board deferred the recommendation for six months as the center works with the housing authority at Rockledge Road and W. Sixth St. The Lawrence Times
