EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The KU School of Nursing received a $1.6 million gift from the Bedford Falls Foundation-DAF on April 14 to fund undergraduate nursing scholarships—$1.5 million will go toward tuition aid and $100,000 for an emergency fund. This donation will help about 175 students receive an average of $5,000 per year to ease their debt burden. University of Kansas

- ➤ Shannon Kimball, a school board member, said Monday that she would not be silenced after receiving more than a dozen hate-filled emails and voicemails aimed mostly at women. The board changed its meeting rules after a heated public exchange—Kimball noted that attacks continue outside the board room. The Lawrence Times
- ➤ A bill that would have banned SNAP users from buying soda and candy failed last week when the House did not act to override Gov—Kelly’s veto, while another bill that makes any expansion of public assistance programs require legislative approval passed along party lines amid concerns it will slow updates to Medicaid, SNAP and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
