  • At the 36th annual KU Powwow and Indigenous Cultures Festival, Corrin Lamere, 23, walked around the powwow circle where she suffered a severe stroke last year—her family thanked community members for their support. She continues her recovery with full-time therapies and hopes to return to school in the fall.  The Lawrence Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Lawrence police investigated a shooting after a fight escalated into gunfire just before 1 a.m. on April 12th near 10th and Massachusetts St as witnesses reported a man and a woman fought and a suspect vehicle fled the scene.  KCTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Ken Lassman writes in the Kaw Valley Almanac that the Eastern Swallowtail caterpillar mimics a bird dropping, then develops a strong odor and a snake head-like growth before becoming a butterfly that feeds on lilacs. He explains how our local seasonal cycles remain much the same as those seen by earlier generations.  The Lawrence Times

  • Today at 6 p.m. the school board will meet at district offices on 110 McDonald Drive with an agenda limited to opening items, a consent agenda, and public comment with no regular business. An executive session is scheduled to review personnel matters—Larry Englebrick and Kristen Ryan will attend.  The Lawrence Times
